How to Save Like a Mennonite:Food and Nutrition:

Here is the old Food video. I have separated some of the contents into two other videos because recipes and food prep seem to be the most popular topics so far! Cost savings for food prep is up and look for an All Recipe Video coming soon!
Tips for this video: Remember the Cook Fest with friends, crockpots, single food snacks such as cabbage or carrots, or sweet potatoe chips. However, the best way to eat simply is to eat unprocessed (and bulk, if possible) food. It can be a challenge, but I hope that you can stay inspired by the many sites and links I will post which offer so many good recipes. I cannot list all my favourites, but will post links below to sites I love and which may help you!

My favourite cookbook:
More with Less Cookbook:

From "More with Less: Javanese Dinner:
This is not the exact recipe and you will see this altered many times over: We have added our own toppings as others do as well!
1 Chicken, cooked, deboned:
White Rice, according to the number of people you will feed
Gravy
Various toppings:
Celery, shredded coconut, raisins, peanuts, Chinese noodles, pineapple chunks, diced tomatoes, green peppers, and as many others as you like!
Cut chicken up, cover with broth, and thicken. Leave in pot in the middle.
Serve each person a dish of rice,
Let each person choose any or all of the toppings and enjoy!

Beard on Bread:Celebrating the recipes of James Beard!
http://www.jamesbeard.org/
My favourite bread recipe. It's based on a recipe in the "Beard on Bread" book called "Marietta's Oatmeal Bread". This, like the Javanese recipe, is not the exact recipe. I have seen it changed and we have tweaked it, too. That is the fun of cooking!

About 8 cups of flour
3 cups of uncooked oatmeal (quick or old fashioned)
4 cups of boiling water
2 pckgs of yeast
½ cup of honey
¼ cup of oil
2TBS salt
Place oats in mixing bowl, pour boiling water over. Let sit till cool. Make sure it has truly cooled for the sake of the yeast. When cool, add the molasses, salt, and oil. (TIP: When measuring honey, use the same 1/4 cup you just used for the oil. Just do it TWICE. The honey will slide right out!) Next, put yeast into a cup with a little warm water and a bit of sugar- stir gently till the yeast foams a bit. Pour that into the mix. Fold in two cups of the flour and let this rise until double in bulk. When double, slowly use the rest of the flour, kneading well, to make a nice smooth, pliable ball. You cannot knead too much. When smooth and pliable, form into three or four nice loaves. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour or until they sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. Rub with butter on the tops. Sprinkle with oatmeal while still warm, if you like. Great as toast, too!
