The need to disconnect in the COVID-19 era | DAN PODJED | TEDxLjubljana

We all heard that the future is digital but does this necessarily mean that we negate the counterspective? The COVID-19 age has affected us in many ways, one of them being the constant dependency on technology and the need to have a computer or mobile phone near us at all times. Dan wants to remind us that that the future is not necessarily all digital and that technology dependency can show us on the other hand how happy can we also be without it.

Dan describes himself as a professional voyeur. Observing, identifying and understanding people is the basis of his profession - he is an ethnologist and cultural anthropologist, who in his research and academic path is primarily interested in modern times and everyday topics. He is habilitated at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana as an assistant professor in the field of cultural and social anthropology. In 2011 he received an award from the Public Research Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of anthropology and ethnology and in 2008 an award from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana for special achievements. He is the co-founder of the international conference “Why the World Needs Anthropologists” and the author of the book of the same title, which is coming to bookshelves this fall.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) Dan describes himself as a professional voyeur.
