Want more grammar? Enroll TODAY in my new beginner course: https://courses.aslmeredith.com :)
In this video, we'll quickly learn how to turn a regular sentence or statement into a yes/no "yes or no" question in ASL. (If you want a more slow, in-depth explanation and more practice sentences, sign up for the beginner online course! It teaches statements, yes/no questions, and also WH-word questions like who, what, where... https://courses.aslmeredith.com ).

This structure can be used to ask a question in American Sign Language. The video also shows a few example statements and questions. As you'll see, the word order is actually the same, but you'll notice the key difference is in the non-manual signals (NMS), or facial expressions. To sign a yes/no question, the most important NMS is to raise your eyebrows. You can also lean forward and hold your last sign. These signals indicate that you're asking a question and expect an answer!
