Charles Vane/Eleanor Guthrie || Poison (AU/Backstory)

Okay, so it's been a while since my last big project on these two and I missed them so much. I've been wanting to use this song for more than a year, because I love it to death and I think it's absolutely PERFECT for them. So I knew I had to make something extra special with it.
I couldn't choose between a regular tribute/AU/Backstory, so why not make it a big mix of all three? First time I do something like this, so I hope it's not too big of a mess lol.
Let's start with backstory. I saw this couple and couldn't help but think they'd be perfect as Charles' parents. I also always liked to imagine that Charles was originally born somewhere in Russia, (crazy, yes, but I just love that idea) in some isolated little village.
His mother, Naomi, ends up in the village after fleeing from her home in England, in order to escape her own abusive family. There, she meets Vasyl and they fall in love. Once their child is born they begin to consider the idea of trying life elsewhere, wanting to spare little Charles of the harsh, endless winter. Before they can put their plans into motion, the village is attacked and Naomi is killed.
Vasyl flees to the nearest port and leaves with his son, befriending a young Edward Teach during the journey (completely pointless, really. The scenes just went too well together, so I wanted to create this little link. They part ways soon though, and Teach forgets all about the two, never knowing that adult Charles was once that baby in that ship)
Life ends up separating father and son, and we all know what happens to Charles then, don't we?
I know it's a pretty crazy story but it all came to me in a dream and has been my headcanon since then lol.
The first two minutes lead up to the AU part. Which is, basically, Charles saying a few truths to Eleanor's face and getting her to reconsider her choices.
Charles is never hanged and eventually, the big battle for their home begins. In this AU, Eleanor conquers Utley's trust and friendship, convincing him to help her and Flint take control of the fort. She's had enough and wants these people out of her island.
Rogers has a huge surprise when his precious jewel attacks him instead of the “enemy” and is forced to retreat. In the end, after many other battles, they win the war and have their home back.
It's pretty messy, A LOT is missing but this was inspired by the ideas I have for one of my fics. So I guess there will be more AUs to fill in the holes eventually lol
