Examination of Microglia at Single Cell Resolution in Health and Disease
Presented By: Samuel Marsh, Ph.D. & Courtney Anderson, PhD.
Speaker Biography: Samuel Marsh (Ph.D.) is postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Beth Stevens at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Marsh received his Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine exploring role of the immune system in Alzheimer's disease.
Dr. Courtney Anderson manages the research applications group at Advanced Cell Diagnostics, a Bio-Techne brand, in Newark, California. Dr. Anderson received her Ph.D. in molecular and developmental biology from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and her B.A. in human biology from Brown University.
Webinar: Examination of Microglia at Single Cell Resolution in Health and Disease
Webinar Abstract: Microglia are the brain's resident immune cells and play key roles in normal development, maintenance of homeostasis, and disease. Using a combination of single cell sequencing and RNAscope we have uncovered novel populations of microglia in both early post-natal development, injury, aging, and neurodegeneration. We have also found that microglia are uniquely sensitive cells and require great care when performing both scRNA-seq and smFISH/RNAscope to ensure accurate results.
