The Citadel Outlets are an outlet mall in the City of Commerce, California along the Santa Ana Freeway southeast of Downtown Los Angeles, which features the Exotic Revival architecture of the tire factory, whose partial remnants the complex occupies, in the style of an Assyrian castle, that of King Sargon II.[1]

In 1929, architects Morgan, Walls and Clements, who also designed Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater, built the Samson Tire and Rubber Co. factory; the factory closed in 1978 and the Commerce government bought the site for $14 million in 1983. In 1990, Trammell Crow Co. was hired for the site's $118 million redevelopments into an outlet center and adjacent 201-room Wyndham Garden Hotel.[1]

Citadel Outlets is Los Angeles’ only outlet shopping center, housing more than 130 top name brand stores and restaurants. Located just 10 minutes south of downtown LA, 25 minutes north of Anaheim and 20 minutes from the San Gabriel Valley, the 700,000 sq. ft. center features an array of retail stores for shoppers to experience, including Coach, Michael Kors, kate spade, Tommy Hilfiger, Armani, GUESS, Hugo Boss, H&M and more.

Citadel Outlets continues to reinvent the shopping landscape in Los Angeles. While maintaining its historical architecture, a $52 million renovation took place in 2008. This multi-million dollar renovation included the addition of 126,000 square feet and 35 new powerful brand name stores. In 2010, the center expanded again opening an additional 157,000 square feet including 36 more new stores, positioning Citadel Outlets as Southern California's most convenient and attractive outlet shopping destination.

In addition to the multiple expansions of the outlet center, Craig Realty Group has changed the face of history with the addition of ten large format signs erected high above the historic wall along Interstate 5. The state-of-the-art screens are 30' tall by 23' wide and expose high impact messages to over 500,000 vehicles traveling I-5 north and southbound every day. Eight of the ten signs utilize LED (light emitting diodes) technology to create high definition images comparable to today's flat screen televisions. The spectacular signs span 1,700 feet of the historic wall and were carefully selected to showcase the center's renovation and expansion and position Citadel Outlets as Los Angeles' premier outlet shopping venue.
