Why B-2 Shouldn’t Be Able to Fly?

The B-2 Spirit has no vertical tail fin. That's not a manufacturing error — it's the reason it can fly over defended airspace without being detected.

A vertical fin reflects radar signals straight back to the source. Remove it, and that return signal disappears. But without a tail, the aircraft has no natural stability. A central computer makes hundreds of tiny corrections every second just to keep it in the air.

The B-2 gave up the ability to fly naturally in exchange for the ability to disappear.
