GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES *DRUM COVER*

Bonzo set the bar very high with his drumming on the first song of the debut album. What a beginning!! This is still one of the most challenging songs to play , not so much because of the bass drum triplets but because of the heavy interaction between the bass drum and left hand work across the snare , tom, and floor tom, all while playing a cowbell rhythm! Its such a unique groove , and its remarkable that he never really quite played a groove like this again, as far as I know. In this tune, the drum part is like a counter melody, it is that integral to the song !!

The fact that he came up with a drum part so distinctive, so creative and challenging, at 20 years old, for their debut is still astounding to me. All the elements of his greatness are exemplified in this drum part....his great footwork, and funky sensibility with a groove, the syncopation between limbs, the beautiful, natural sounding drums, the way the beat follows the main riff...these are all trademarks of his style, his musical personality. I thought about doing some videos where I compare what a standard/typical rock drummer might play along with a Zep tune, as opposed to what Bonzo played, to illustrate how integral his drumming was to each song's character , but I suppose that's already been discussed well enough.
