5-year-old child visiting Maasai Mara in Kenya is down with Malaria

A sad story of a family with kid visiting the famous Maasai Mara park in Kenya falls seriously ill.

He is a 5-year-old boy who had high-grade fever with chills and lost consciousness and was brought to the Nairobi General Hospital in Kenya Africa. He was suspected to have raised Intracranial pressure as a severe and life-threatening complication of Malaria Falciparum infection.

The family in India walked in to our office in Mumbai and requested for an early and safe transportation to Mumbai.

Our representative in Nairobi contacted the treatment and understood the clinical status of the child and treatment planned for his ailment.
He had undergone multiple blood tests, cerebral spinal fluid analysis, liver function test and blood glucose on a daily basis. He was on Quinine medications.

We arranged for an Air Ambulance Charter flight with a full medical team of an Intensive care doctor specializing in Pediatric medical and a PALS qualified nurse with all medical equipments including a monitor, pulseoximeter and ventilator. The child was on Nasogastric tube feeding.

The aircraft completed the journey from Nairobi to Mumbai with one stop at Salalah in Oman. The patient was ground transported to Lilavati Hospital.

The patient was further investigated and treated in the Pediatric Intensive care unit and was discharged two months later.

The Family decision to transfer the child back to Mumbai yielded good results.
