How to Make Insecticidal Soap

Insecticidal soaps are so much gentler on the environment than pesticides. I don't want unnecessary chemicals around our food, pets, or PrepperA. Making insecticidal soap is not an exact science. You just have to use things that bugs hate, and that's usually any strong scent. I used cayenne pepper because bugs don't like the heat. Garlic is good if you're trying to repel deer and rabbits. Citrus is known to repel bugs, and ginger is not only a strong scent but it's spicy too.

KATZCRADUL'S INSECTICIDAL SOAP

2 cups water
4 cloves garlic, smashed
4 cayenne peppers, including seeds
peel from one orange or lemon
1 teaspoon grated ginger, can use dried, ground ginger
1 teaspoon grated soap - not detergent

Steep for about 15 minutes. Best to refrigerate overnight. Strain off liquid into a pump bottle. Dilute with 1 quart water. Spray on plants, but not during the heat of the day. Re-apply after rain if needed. Store in refrigerator. If you don't, it will grow mold.

I tasted the mixture and it was really hot and spicy. It sure did make the house smell terrific though. It smelled like a Chinese restaurant. The aroma woke-up PrepperA. She came into the kitchen and said, "What smells so terrific!" She was disappointed to find it was only bug killer!

* I don't use Windex anymore, even though you saw a bottle in the video. I save the bottle and make my own glass cleaner solution from purified water and vinegar. it works great.
