Container build - the walls come out! Cutting container walls with plasma cutter
So a huge milestone for us...we start cutting the walls of the containers to form the rooms, hallways and areas of the container house.
I am using a Miller Plasma cutter that cuts like a knife through butter. It was interesting cutting the first walls out but after a few I got the hang of it.
The basic idea is to cut the bottoms 1st, then the verticals at about 5-6ft wide sections, then cut the top and throw them out of the container.
It's a lot of sections but easy enough, just hrs of plasma cutting. After 3 days of cutting, I am on my 3rd tip. I have also learned that the different tips I have cut different thickness material so that the cut is clean and blows out properly. The last tip I am using is for a 40amp cut, thick material and is working fantastic. I did burn out a tip that was for thin material. The castle on the tip seems to dictate the amount of air blowing through and the tip is recessed at different depths as well. I guess I should have read the directions...live and learn, I have not done a lot of plasma cutting until this. But we a tool...
I also had to cut the strap hoops that are in all the container so I could cut closer to the wall. Most of those are probably 3/8 to 1/2" thick. Easy to cut out with a cut off wheel (I have moved to 6" discs - works great).
Thanks for watching, more cutting to do but the next step is the floor structure in the living room. I beams and more welding to go. The wall cut outs will be the floor, also welded to the containers and the floor structure. The next phase after that is the beginning of the 2x6 construction for the living room walls, roof, and garage! I am looking forward to that process. Gonna be fun.
Thanks again...cya soon.
