Description:
The idea is to hold right notch, slightly downward on the first longjump which should give you a very slight angle to the left when going up the stairs. The camera will automatically change direction the moment you blj using this setup. the slight angle to the left causes mario's arms to go forward more during the first longjump, which is actually a different type of longjump. For some reason that type of longjump makes it more consistent.
