#DLSLforTaal Highlights - From the Welcome Shelters to the Other Humanitarian Assistance Efforts

De La Salle Lipa has once again fulfilled its mission as a vital member of the community with its valiant efforts to help the victims of the crisis of the Taal Volcano eruption. It has organized relief operations by soliciting and distributing relief goods to the evacuees as well as serving as a welcome shelter which assisted and provided much-needed space and supplies to the displaced individuals and families residing within the danger zone.

The initiative entitled “The De La Salle Lipa Operation: Bangon Batangas! Project,” through the “De La Salle Lipa Welcome Shelters”,provided a temporary home to 344 displaced residents from the municipalities of Taal, Laurel, Talisay, and Mataas na Kahoy, and gave three regular hot meals per day to 500 individuals housed at the Sto. Toribio Elementary School.

As of January 30, 2020, the cash donations that have been entrusted to De La Salle Lipa reached a total of Php 3,443,453.59. A total of Php 2,715,516.64 was spent for the operation in terms of food, daily supplies, snacks, medical supplies, and facilities and ancillary infrastructure services. But regardless of the expenses incurred in operating the Welcome Shelters, De La Salle Lipa did not charge the expenses to the donations received. Instead, the total amount of cash donations will be used entirely towards the rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts for the people who have been directly and severely impacted by the crisis. In this regard, DLSL continues to invite generous people of goodwill to continue to donate and help these families to transition by assisting them in their rebuilding efforts and expedite their return to a normal life.

Meanwhile, in-kind donations have been given in the form of various instant and cooked meals and snacks, assorted drinks, toiletries and face masks, beddings and mattresses, clothes and slippers, utensils, laundry detergent soaps, and even toys.
