There is no reason for Olympics to be held in India at this point of time.
Long Answer: India hasn't thoughtfully tried to bring Olympics to India and rightfully so. India should not think of hosting the Olympics till we are sure to win at least 12 to 15 medals including a couple of golds or finish in the top 15. Otherwise it would be a huge embarrassment to India as a host. I'm guessing the India government and the Olympics committee is well aware of it. Unless we repeatedly and consistently improve our medal tally, we shouldn't think of hosting it.

Now the 2nd part of having it in India. The hosting of Olympics is a huge task and will incur expenses of gigantic proportions. The past few Olympics have also shown us that host cities had to incur massive budget overruns. Greece's economic downfall was partly caused by huge spending on hosting the Olympics. They had to construct many new venues and other arrangements for many events. Many of their venues are in ruins now and the remaining has little or no usage.

Even we are guilty of not taking care of our sporting venues. The commonwealth Stadium in New Delhi lies in utter neglect with garbage being dumped besides it. The synthetic track has started falling apart, so has some seating sections.
So should we indulge in this? Given our history, we should stay away from hosting it, till we become a very timely and disciplined countries who can first take care of the non material assets.

I think Olympics are best hosted by cities that already have the infrastructure and system to do so in place. I believe we would see cities that have hosted before hosting again, i.e. London, Tokyo.
আপনি কি জানেন ইন্ডিয়াতে অলিম্পিক গেম কেনো হয় না ? অলিম্পক খেলার জন্য international Olympic committee প্রধান সংস্থা , যাদের কিছু শর্ত থাকে , কেনো দেশ যদি কোনো শহরের নাম পাঠায় তাদের প্রমাণ করতে হয় যে ওই শহর অলিম্পিক খেলার জন্য হওয়া ভিড় কে হ্যান্ডেল করতে পারবে , আর সাথে যেখানে খেলা হবে সেখানে আর্থিক ভাবে লাভবান হবে সেটাও প্রমাণ করতে হয়, যাতে এমন না হয় যে খেলার জন্য খরচ টাও উঠে না আসে। তাছাড়াও রেজিস্ট্রেশন এর জন্য একটি মোটা টাকা 1 লাখ 15 হাজার ডলার পেমেন্ট করতে হয়। অলিম্পক কমিটির মনে করে যে আমরা এখনো অত বড় খেলা ব্যবস্থা করতে পারবো না, আর তাই আমাদের দেশ থেকে নাম পাঠানোই হয় না। আর একটা কারণ হল 2003 এ আমাদের দেশ 2010 এর commonwealth হোস্ট করার সুযোগ পায়, কিন্তু ওই সময়, না সময়ে স্টেডিয়াম নির্মাণ হয় , না বাকি infrastructure complete হয়, উপরন্তু নেতা গুলো commonwealth ঘোটালা করে বিশ্বে খারাপ ছাপ ফেলে দেয়।
