Baba Koffi served his village faithfully for 40 years. But when he stood up to warn them about selling their sacred eastern lands, the young leaders laughed at him. "Old man, you don't understand progress," they said. "Your time is over."

They called him confused. They called him old-fashioned. They shut the door in his face.

But Baba Koffi knew something they didn't. He knew the sacred lands protected their water. He knew the ancient trees held the soil together. He knew the ancestors' graves must never be disturbed.

The village voted to sell the land anyway. They built a commercial center. They celebrated their "progress."

Then the wells ran muddy.
Then the landslide came.
Then the sickness started.
Then the children began to suffer.

By the time the young chairman Kwame came crawling back, kneeling at Baba Koffi's door, begging for forgiveness... the village had lost almost everything.
