ये जानकर आपको आश्चर्य जरूर होगा कि भगवान गणेश का असली सिर आज भी एक गुफा (Clave) में मौजूद है. कहते हैं कि भगवान शिव ने गुस्से में आकर गणेश का सिर काट दिया था और उसे एक गुफा में रख दिया था. इस गुफा को 'पटल भुवनेश्वर' के नाम से जाना जाता है. यहां गणेश भगवान को आदि गणेश भी कहते हैं. इस गुफा की खोज आदिशंकराचार्य ने की थी. ये गुफा उत्तराखंड के पिथौड़ागढ़ के गंगोलीहाट (Gangolihat of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand) से 14 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है.

Patal Bhuvaneshwar is also described in Skanda Purana. The place where Ganesha's head is placed is known as Patal Bhuvaneshwar. The idol of Ganesh ji enshrined here is called Adiganesh.

In this cave, the 108-petalled Shavastaka Dal Brahma Kamal is adorned just above the cut Shilarupi (head) idol of Lord Ganesha. From this Brahma Kamal a divine drop of water drips on the head of Lord Ganesha. The main drop is seen falling in the face of Aadi Ganesha. These drops are also called the stream of nectar.

According to the Puranas, the head of Lord Ganesha is still kept in a cave, which is located in Patal Bhubaneshwar. At the same time, along with the head of Lord Ganesha in this cave, Kedarnath, Badrinath and Amarnath can also be seen at that place.

Apart from this, a rock will be seen here which is in the middle of the path, this rock represents the headless body of Lord Ganesha!
