UNION Technology Workshop & Demonstration: Bringing precise positioning to mass-market, February 6th, 2023.

A workshop and a demonstration will be held at the ICGC, where Rokubun and the ICGC will present the UNION project, the technology developed and the results obtained. The workshop will be followed by a demonstration for the Automotive navigation case and the LBS (Location Based Services), showing the results of the project and the benefits of using it as a precise navigation tool.

UNION (Undifferenced and UNcombIned PositiOning EngiNe) is a new satellite positioning technology aiming at providing accurate navigation for mass-market devices, based on leveraging the strengths of RTK (Real Time Kinematics) and PPP (Precise Point Positioning) techniques, plus the Galileo HAS (High Accuracy Service). UNION aims at palliating some of the main limitations of those techniques such as the poor scalability of RTK and the slow convergence time of PPP.

Therefore, the underlying value proposition of UNION is “Accurate and scalable navigation for mass-market”. Scalability involves not only price so that the technology can be adopted by mass-market low-end or mid-end GNSS devices and geodetic receivers, but technology scalability in terms of ubiquity and number of simultaneous users. This new technology provides accurate and real-time navigation for devices installed in vehicles, drones or smartphones, among others, improving the continuity, accuracy and availability of the current services available for these equipment and devices.

Es farà un jornada i una demostració a l'ICGC (en anglès), on Rokubun i l’ICGC presentaran el projecte UNION, la tecnologia desenvolupada i els resultats obtinguts. El taller anirà seguit d'una demostració per al cas de navegació d’automòbils i per als serveis LBS (Location Based Services), mostrant els resultats del projecte i els beneficis d'utilitzar-lo com a eina de navegació precisa.

UNION (Undifferenced and UNcombIned PositiOning EngiNe) és una nova tecnologia de posicionament per satèl·lit que té com a objectiu proporcionar una navegació precisa per a dispositius del mercat de masses, basada en aprofitar els punts forts de les tècniques RTK (Real Time Kinematics) i PPP (Precise Point Positioning), a més del servei HAS (High Accuracy Service) de Galileo. UNION té com a objectiu pal·liar algunes de les principals limitacions d'aquestes tècniques, com ara la poca escalabilitat de l’RTK i els llargs temps de convergència del PPP.

Per tant, l’aportació de valor subjacent de UNION és "Navegació precisa i escalable per al mercat de masses". L'escalabilitat implica el preu perquè la tecnologia pugui ser adoptada per dispositius GNSS de gamma baixa o mitja del mercat de masses més enllà de receptors geodèsics, i també implica la tecnologia en termes d'ubiqüitat i nombre d'usuaris simultanis. Aquesta nova tecnologia proporciona una navegació precisa i en temps real per als dispositius instal·lats en vehicles, drons o telèfons intel·ligents, entre d'altres, millorant la continuïtat, precisió i disponibilitat dels serveis actuals disponibles per a aquests equips i dispositius.
