Government will 'assert Australia's sovereignty' and hold digital platforms 'accountable'

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland says the government will assert "Australia's sovereignty" in the tech space.

This comes amid calls for a greater crackdown on social media and lifting the age at which children can access these platforms.

“We have a regulatory framework in place; we have an independent regulator,” Ms Rowland told Sky News Australia.

“We will continue to assert Australia’s sovereignty in this area.

“We will continue to not only expect but assert compliance with our laws.

“We will continue to make sure that our laws are up to date and that these digital platforms are held to account.”
