Gauguin – The Diary of Noa Noa and Other Adventures. Gauguin Il diario di Noa Noa e altre avventure
The exhibition focuses on the book, written by Gauguin after his first trip to Tahiti, "The Journal of Noa Noa" enriched by splendid woodcuts to illustrate the texts and printed by his friend, Daniel de Monfreid.
This book, created on the occasion of his return to Paris, after his first stay in Tahiti, tells the story of life in the Polynesian islands, the myths and ancestral beliefs that marked the rhythms of daily life. Created by mixing the stories of Tehuana, his young Tahitian companion, with sources and information drawn from some travel books, he managed to create a work that caused a sensation and brought him to the attention of the Parisian world of the time.
Accompanying these splendid works by Gauguin, an oil painting entitled Tahitiana, attributed to Gauguin, made around 1891 and coming, together with a precious watercolor - Polynesian Landscape with Hut - from the prestigious collection of the famous art critic Giovanni Testori and Alain Toubas, of the Compagnia del Disegno of Milan.

La mostra è incentrata sul libro, scritto da Gauguin dopo il suo primo viaggio a Tahiti, “Il diario di Noa Noa” arricchito da splendide xilografie ad illustrarne i testi e stampate dal suo amico, Daniel de Monfreid.
Questo libro, realizzato in occasione del suo rientro a Parigi, dopo il primo soggiorno Tahitiano, racconta la vita nelle isole polinesiane, i miti e le credenze ancestrali, che scandivano i ritmi della vita quotidiana. Realizzato mischiando i racconti di Tehuana, la sua giovane compagna tahitiana, con fonti e notizie attinte da alcuni libri di viaggi, riuscì a realizzare un’opera che fece scalpore e lo pose all’attenzione del mondo parigino dell’epoca.
Ad accompagnare questi splendidi lavori di Gauguin, un dipinto ad olio intitolato Tahitiana, attribuito a Gauguin, realizzato attorno al 1891 e proveniente, assieme ad un prezioso acquerello - Paesaggio polinesiano con capanna - dalla prestigiosa collezione del celebre critico d’arte Giovanni Testori e di Alain Toubas, della Compagnia del Disegno di Milano.
