How did Ancient Egyptians Mummify the Dead?

In this excerpt taken from Herodotus Histories, he gives us his account of the ancient Egyptian mummification process which he witnessed during his travels throughout Egypt around 450 BC. #ancientegypt #mummificationprocess #herodotus

He explains to us that there are 3 methods of mummification which vary depending on the price you want to pay, so the only the rich could afford the most 'perfect' technique, and the poor had to make due with a much more basic process. He also tells us how beautiful women were often mummified a few days after death, to protect them from the embalmers getting a bit to personal with them. Finally Herodotus also mentions that anyone who is killed by a crocodile or dies in the river is given a specific burial pertaining to their religious beliefs as they hold crocodiles, and the river, in very high esteem.
