PAs fill Critical Gaps in Neurosurgery

Residents focus on gaining skills in the operating room, while PAs can help fill the gaps of ward management:

1️⃣ Kirsten describes seeing 30-50 inpatients requiring constant triage and hospitalist-level of coordination.

2️⃣ She steps in as surgical first-assist during resident shortages to maintain service continuity.

3️⃣ She also finds that 20% of her time with patients is providing counselling for families facing devestating outcomes, such as glioblastoma or life-altering trauma.

Physician Assistants are uniquely positioned to fill this void. By managing the heavy clinical and administrative load of the wards, PAs ensure that patient care remains seamless even when surgical demands pull the rest of the team away.
