How to find the limit using SQUEEZE THEOREM (KristaKingMath)

► My Limits & Continuity course: https://www.kristakingmath.com/limits-and-continuity-course

Sometimes it's difficult or impossible to evaluate a limit directly. Instead, you may be able to use squeeze theorem to prove the value of the limit.

Squeeze theorem is so called because you prove the value of the limit by squeezing the function between two others. If you can show that a function always lies between two others, and then you can show that the limit of the other two functions is equal at some point, then you can also prove that the limit of the original function must have the same limit at the same point, since the function is squeezed between the other two.

To use squeeze theorem, you'll want to look for two functions or values, one of which will always be greater than the given function, the other which will always be less than the given function. Then you can set the three up in an inequality, taking the limit of the other two at the point of interest, and squeezing the limit of the given function down to just one value.

Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

So I started tutoring to keep other people out of the same aggravating, time-sucking cycle. Since then, I’ve recorded tons of videos and written out cheat-sheet style notes and formula sheets to help every math student—from basic middle school classes to advanced college calculus—figure out what’s going on, understand the important concepts, and pass their classes, once and for all.
