The acknowledgment that political leaders should receive fair financial compensation in a nation is not in dispute. Ideally, higher salaries for politicians would reduce the likelihood of them engaging in corrupt practices involving public funds. However, it is disheartening, astonishing, and lacking empathy for a country like Jamaica, which faces economic challenges, to grant exorbitant salary increases ranging from 200 to 300 percent to the "political class." This group includes the prime minister, cabinet ministers, members of parliament, leader of the opposition, city mayors, parish councilors, and permanent secretaries.
