The Dagara Music Center is a traditional school of drum and dance in Medie, Ghana. It is the continuation of the legacy of Bernard Woma, the late master gyil player, leader, humanitarian, educator and father of three. I had the distinct pleasure to visit and learn from these wonderful people in January of this year (2020) to expand my education of West African music. This video showcases just a small snippet of traditional Dagara and Ewe music an dance which the DMC keeps alive through their programs and relentless dedication to their culture .

The sudden halt of local and international performance opportunities as well as the lack of potential student groups traveling to the center has taken a toll on the school's well-being and the Woma family. I believe it is our responsibility as members of the Western World and citizens of the Earth to financially support this school during a time of crisis, helping to acknowledge, appreciate and and do sustain these rare and beautiful art forms.

Saakumu, the DMC's international touring drum and dance troupe, had a tour planned this past Spring, and was obviously not able to perform. If you are inspired or entertained by this video, think of your donation as a virtual tip jar.
