'Powerful Uzbekistan Explosion Kills Teen and Injures 162 Others'.

A powerful explosion rocked the Uzbek capital on Thursday killing a teenage boy and injuring at least 163 people, the Uzbekistan Ministry of Health said.

At least 24 people were taken to hospital, with the other 138 treated by emergency services on the scene.

Footage shot by Tashkent residents and shared by the Telegram channel Militsiya Uzb showed the explosion and fire.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Health said a fire broke out after a lightning strike.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the explosion happened at an industrial warehouse that belonged to a company transporting cargo.

Windows were blown out in apartment buildings close to the explosion site.

The explosion and fire also damaged a metro station nearby but didn’t affect the train traffic, the metro press service said.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is now underway.
