Big Art Challenge UK Art Prize Episode 05

Show highlighting the work of British up and coming artists. Ten artists from this first heat in London will go on to the semi-final. Programme considers what makes art, what the parameters are and what art means today. Artists are competing for a GBP10,000 prize
40,000 people entered Five's national art competition, in which we aimed to seek out the next Damien Hirst or John Constable. Ten of these entrants managed to get to the grand final in Liverpool, where Chris Boyd and Penny Klepuszewska were declared joint winners of the £10,000 prize. Richard White, who was awarded the £2,000 People's Prize, was named by viewers of the programme as their favourite artist.

The 10 finalists produced amazing pieces and were a mixture of professional artists and students.

Penny Klepuszewska, a 2003 graduate from Nottingham Trent University and Chris Boyd, a Manchester Metropolitan University second-year interactive arts student were joint winners of the UK Art Prize 2004, that attracted over 40,000 entries.

The work was judged by the art critic Brian Sewell, Turner prize artist Jane Wilson and the designer Wayne Hemingway. Hemingway used to be a fashion designer and started the company Red or Dead which he eventually sold.
