IPOH is a food paradise. We’re road tripping around Perak and today we take you on a MASSIVE MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD TOUR around Ipoh to eat some it’s most famous dishes.
Where we ate:
Nasi Ganja at Kedah Kopi Yong Suan, 2, Jalan Yang Kalsom, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak. Open 7 days, 9:30am to 5:00pm. Halal.
Nasi ganja or ‘weed rice’ is really popular in Ipoh! It’s called weed rice not because it has marijuana in it but rather that it’s extremely addictive! We have to agree! Nasi ganja is actually nasi kandar- an Indian Muslim rice and curry dish. We sample ours with fried spiced chicken, some okra, half a salted egg, acar (vegetable pickle) and a dollop of coconut sambal. HEAVENLY!
Curry Mee at Cafe Wah Nam, 30, Jalan Raja Ekram, Kampung Jawa, 30300 Ipoh, Perak. Open mornings and early afternoon. Non Halal.
Curry mee is another must eat when in Ipoh. We found this one to be delicious- the broth was well balanced and the coconut sambal and mint leaves were a winner!
Heong Peah at 362 Heong Peah, 362, Jalan Gunung Rapat, Taman Rapat Setia, 31350 Ipoh, Perak.
A biscuit maker who still makes these ‘fragrant biscuits’ the traditional way. A must visit and must eat!
White coffee at Sin Yoong Loong, 15A, Jalan Bandar Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak. Open 7 days morning and afternoon.
This kopitiam was the first to serve Ipoh White Coffee. It’s a must try when in Ipoh!
Tau Fu Fah. We were asked by the proprietor of this eatery to omit their details but you might be able to figure out the shop name from the video. The tau fu fah from this eatery is made the traditional way without using any preservatives or other setting agents, As such it’s silky and wobbly- perfection!
Beansprout chicken at Cowan Street Ayam Tuage & Koitiau, 44, Jalan Raja Ekram, Kampung Jawa, 31350 Ipoh, Perak. Open Thursday to Sunday 6:00pm to 8:15pm
Ipoh is famous for this dish. The beansprouts in Ipoh are said to be the best in Malaysia as the water that they’re grown in has an abundance of minerals. The beansprouts are indeed plump and juicy and the poached chicken is very good too!
We are in Malaysia for the next wee while and would love any food recommendations. Please let us know your favourite places to eat in the comments below. And if you like this video, please give it a thumbs up, share it and subscribe to our channel. Thanks so much for your support.
