NPTE Practice Questions: Extensor Tone
The NPTE or National Physical Therapy Exam is a difficult exam that can be intimidating for students. It's important to prepare and practice the right way, so you don't fail! In this video I answer one of the more popular questions asked on my channel.
How good are you at differential diagnosis of neurological conditions? Let's test your ability in this excellent episode about lower extremity extensor tone.
NPTE Practice Question:
Erica is a 32-year-old female who presents to the outpatient neurological recovery center (NRC) with significant lower extremity extensor tone and complaints of difficulty ambulating. The patient has a 5-year history of frequent and characteristic bouts of excessive fatigue, paresthesias throughout her upper and lower extremities, and trouble articulating what she needs. Which of the following is the BEST intervention to address her primary impairment?
Answer Choices:
A. Tai chi in the pool with a water temperature of 87.5 degrees Fahrenheit
B. Instruct the patient to lie in supine and take long deep breaths, while surrounded by a warm blanket.
C. Instruct the patient to lie in hook-lying position with a therapy ball under the legs, rotating the lower body side to side
D. Resistance UE training in the pool with a water temperature of 90 degrees Fahrenheit
Do you think you know which answer is correct? Watch the video to find out.
If you get it wrong, don’t worry. Dr. Kyle Rice, better known as “Coach K” doesn’t just give you the answer -- he breaks down the question so you know how to eliminate answers before getting to the right one.
