Greece recently experienced an extraordinary event as strong southerly winds carried Sahara Desert dust, casting an apocalyptic, Martian-like hue across the skies. The phenomenon, reminiscent of a sci-fi scene, transformed the landscape, with social media inundated with surreal orange-tinted images. Tourists were bewildered, feeling as though they had been transported to the Sahara. However, this event had serious repercussions, deteriorating air quality, raising temperatures, and sparking approximately 25 wildfires within 24 hours. Authorities issued warnings about the health risks of breathing in the dust, marking one of the most severe instances of Sahara dust and sand concentrations since 2018.
