 While previously revealing having had talks with the two-time Oscar nominee for his iteration of the series, Gillian Anderson is now clarifying the chances of her return in Ryan Coogler's X-Files. After the two-season revival of the classic sci-fi series, multiple efforts have been made to reboot the franchise, beginning with an animated series before creator Chris Carter revealed that the Sinners director was developing his own.  Coogler's busy schedule with the 2025 historical horror epic briefly put the X-Files reboot on the backburner, to which he promised he would turn his focus to it once he had completed Sinners. He subsequently confirmed progress being made on the series in October, when he also opened up about his mother's influence on the show, as a fan of the original, but has remained mum on the potential casting for the show.  Now, in an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender to discuss her Netflix Western drama The Abandons, Anderson was asked about an update on her potential return in the X-Files reboot. The Golden Globe and Emmy winner began by clarifying that her previous talks with Coogler were "to be told that he was [making the show]" rather than any kind of official return negotiations, and doesn't know what the future may hold for Scully in the series:  Anderson previously revealed having had talks with Coogler back in May, though didn't specify whether it was just to be made aware of the X-Files reboot's development. She did, however, describe him at the time as being "the perfect person" to lead the charge on bringing the iconic sci-fi series back and said "perhaps" to bringing Scully back if the stars aligned on the vision.  Her most recent comments certainly don't contradict her previous ones, but do feel closer to how she's felt about reprising the role after The X-Files season 11's ending. Anderson has been pretty adamant about not wanting to return as Scully, as she felt much of her character's arcs were tackling familiar themes and wanted something "new and progressive." She also was concerned about continuing to be tied to one character, something many, including co-star David Duchovny, have experienced after starring in a long-running series like X-Files. R
