Lean Manufacturing: Simplifying Work Cell Design

This video that outlines the basic principles concerning work cell management and how simple lean principles can be applied even within the kitchen of a given house. The video explains how kitchens are designed with lean manufacturing principles in mind.
The video shows how workflow comes in and how it progresses from one chain to the next without the operator having to leave their work cell. An example Takt board is provided in the video in the form of a calendar on the fridge.
A kitchen is a lean work cell because everything someone needs to cook is right in the kitchen. There is plenty of space to navigate from one area to the next and from one task to the next. The food is there, the knives, forks, plates and other utensils. Ultimately, the operator should never have to leave that work cell and within a kitchen, a person who cooks never has to leave.
