This video is about basis of clinical features and pathology of acute and chronic pancreatitis.
In acute pancreatitis, damage is acute causing lot of cell necrosis. It also causes damage to blood vessels. Because of cell damage, pancreatic enzyme amylase and lipase are released into the circulation.. Since it is acute inflammation of pancreas, like any other acute inflammation, neutrophil infiltration occurs in pancreas.
In chronic pancreatitis, cell damgae is slow, giving time for healing. Thus there is seen lot of scarring of pancreatic tissue. Also, since cells are lost, serum amylase does not rise. Rather, clinical features occur due to decreased secretinof pancreatic enzymes in duodenum i.e malabsorption and diarrhoea (steatorrhea). Since it is chronic inflammation of pancreas, like any other chronic inflammation, there is inflitration of lymphocytes and plasma cells seen.
The morphological features of chronic pancreatitis (pathology) is visualized by radiological techniques.
