How to Use Retinol in Skincare! #skincare #youtubeshorts
If you’re a beginner to retinoids, read caption ⬇️
1. ✅ Retinol sandwich/ Sandwich technique means that you first clean your face, pat it dry and apply a thin layer of a moisturiser of your choice. Let it absorb. Then you add a very small, almost insignificant amount of the retinoid (if its a prescription then even smaller) and apply it evenly across your face. let it absorb. Then you further go ahead and seal it with another layer of moisturises because it helps keep the flakiness/ itchiness rising out of the retnoid at bay. I experienced a ton of flakiness in the beginning which i'd shared on my stories as well. A moisturiser with glycerin/ hyaluronic acid/ squalane/ butters would be great for this technique. Pleasssse do a patch test before you start and observe the effect for 72 hours.
2. Broken skin and retinoids are a BIG NO❌ Broken means flaky/ itchy skin with a damaged barrier. Dont also use on freashly waxed, shaved or chemically peeled skin. Active acne and retinoids are okay because that's what the retinoid is meant to fix. But if as a beginner you use it on extremely troubled skin, chances are you'll experience heavy peeling which might aggravate your skin further.
3. SPF! ✅🙏 I cannot reiterate this more. Without SPF, your skin will turn super duper sensitive to sunlight. Retinoids helps in cell turnover by clearing your skin of dead skin cells, which means that your skin’s upper layer is always undergoing an evolution/ a cleansing of sorts. You dont want the fresh, new skin coming up to be burnt by UV rays. So get the best SPF that you can while on retinoids.
4/5/6: Dont overdo. ✅ Dont use more than twice a week. ✅ And dont go too experimental with the layering. ✅Thats all!
