Sustainable practices are key for preserving our planet, but the doom and gloom style used in many conservation messages is a huge bummer. To teach the action sports audience about Quiksilver’s Earth-friendly efforts, processes, and materials we crafted the Recycled for Radness experience. This quirky, animated page showcases the transformative journey of Mr. Bottle, illustrated by Australian artist Jarrad Wright, as he goes from useless litter to boardshorts embedded with cool properties like wicking, water repellency, and more. Woven throughout is the attitude and swagger of pro surfer Mikey Wright, who served as inspiration for the personality of our plastic bottle hero.
The tale unfolds through an interwoven series of animated elements, which are revealed and triggered by the visitor as they scroll down the page. Some of these animations detail integral technologies like Repreve, who transforms plastic bottles into amazing clothing fibers, and SpinDye, a more modern and sustainable method of dying fabrics. Others display athletes associated with the Recycled for Radness campaign, like pro surfers Zeke Lau, Kanoa Igarashi, and Andy Nieblas. If the message resonates with readers, the bottom of the page provides opportunities to shop for products made using these sustainable techniques as well as an ever-updating bottle counter that shows the radical number of plastic bottles being repurposed using this technology.
