Cycling the Dolomites, Part 1 of 7, Bolzano/Bozen
Bolzano is situated strategically in the junction of 4 alpine valleys resulting in a wide fertile valley surrounded by spectacular Dolomite peaks. The valley is filled with orchards and vineyards and enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year making it the Ideal destination for exploring. No wonder it is home to some of the best cycling in the world. There is close access to the spectacular climbs of the Giro d’Italia. If climbing mountains is not your thing there are plenty of flat rides through one of the longest dedicated bike routes, The 750km Via Claudia Augusta. This ancient Roman road extends from the Po valley in the south though Austria and into Germany. All this with the amenities and food of a great Italian city.
