BRIDGE REMOVAL. HOUGHTON RD. TUCSON, AZ

The removal and replacement of the Houghton Rd. bridge over the railroad has been long over due. Due to conditions of age, wear, and capacity this bridge was removed in its entirety to make way for a modern overpass. The bridge was constructed of pre-cast "tubs" that were set on piers and then paved over. The demolition included dismantling these tubs via an oversized telehandler forklift. Each tub weighed in at 55,000lbs and were picked individually with the Extreme 7038. This machine, having a capacity of 70,000 lbs., made light work of picking and moving each piece. All of the tubs were pulverized onsite and all rebar and metal was separated and recycled. The pulverized concrete was sized to spec and used as fill material for the new overpass ramp yet to be constructed.
