The M1 Garand was designed around a specific 30-06 loading commonly referred to as M2 Ball.

M2 Ball is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain on the surplus market. Some ammunition manufacturers are starting to to fill that void by loading to M2 ball spec with new ammunition. Many shooters, however, either don't know what M2 ball is or can't obtain M2 ball spec loaded ammunition easily.

Is it dangerous to use standard commercial ammunition?
