Lanie Gardner - Shadows

This one has a lesson I’ll never forget. It’s a song for the people who just can’t seem to find comfort in who they are. For those who, image their idols or other people in general: similar to how actual shadows “image” what ever is standing between them and the light.

“Conform or be condemned, I don’t know what’s worse” is my favorite line cause it’s something that a lot of people (myself included) in high school are/were presented with and had to deal with. Both options suck. Being yourself is out of the question, right? It feels that way sometimes. We keep who we truly are hidden in the shadows, because we are afraid of what people will think. In reality, those people are struggling with the same exact thing. I am a firm believer that being yourself gives people permission to do the same.

Advice to those going through it? Surround yourself with people who love you for you right off the bat. Popularity and acceptance is such a waste of time; especially if you aren’t happy with the person you became trying to achieve it.

Be humble. Be kind. Be yourself. And NEVER apologize for it...
