Mamdani, joined by Sanders, announces city-run grocery stores coming to NYC

“I know there are many who use socialist as a dirty word — but we will not be ashamed of using government to fight for the many, not simply the few.”

In an address marking his first 100 days in office, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced plans to open city-run grocery stores, one in each borough, by the end of his first term.

Sen. Bernie Sanders joined him on stage, adding, “What’s radical is starting a terrible war. That’s radical. But providing affordable food to working families — that’s not radical. It’s exactly the right thing to do.”
