Eddie Redmayne on 'The Danish Girl' and How Transgender Vocabulary Has Changed

We already brought you a video of director Tom Hooper and the cast of The Danish Girl talking about transgender misconceptions and what they learned while making the movie, but now it's time to dig a little deeper and discuss some of the details in the film, starting with Eddie Redmayne. Redmayne leads as Lili Elbe, the first person to undergo gender confirmation surgery. The film begins in 1926 when Lili was living as Einar in Copenhagen. When her wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander) asks her to sub in for a model she was painting and to don her dress, it awakens something in her and Einar comes to accept Lili as her true self.

During my chat with Redmayne, he addressed his prep process, the debate about whether the book Man into Woman is a totally reliable source, a key piece of information that helped put the character into perspective for him, and loads more.

The Danish Girl hits select theaters on November 27th and expands in December.
