Day Two of CityTrip Japan: Culture, Cuisine, and Tradition

Our second day in Tokyo offered the delegation a deeper understanding of Japan’s rich cultural heritage and daily life—an essential foundation for building global relationships.

We began the morning at Meiji Shrine, a sacred Shinto site dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken. Nestled in a tranquil forest in the heart of Tokyo, the shrine offered a moment of reflection and connection to Japan’s spiritual traditions and modern history.

Next, we visited the bustling Tsukiji Outer Fish Market, where we explored the vibrant stalls and sampled fresh seafood. In the afternoon, the group attended the May Grand Sumo Tournament, gaining firsthand insight into one of Japan’s oldest and most respected traditions. From the ceremonial rituals to the dramatic bouts, it was a powerful expression of discipline, heritage, and national pride.

A day of tradition, taste, and connection—more to come as we continue our journey through Japan!
