The First Freeway in the United States started in Pasadena, California

The Arroyo Seco Parkway is the first freeway built in the United States. Opened in 1940 and it was originally built like a parkway. You still have stop signs before you enter the freeway. It connected Pasadena with downtown Los Angeles. It is also called the 110 freeway or the Pasadena freeway. All original bridges over the Arroyo Seco are still crossing the freeway. The Arroyo Seco Parkway is passing through four tunnels under the Elysian park created in the 1930s.
