Prevailing Power | Acts 19

If God directed you to plant a church in a big city, what would you do? Spend thousands of dollars to buy air time for your ministry on the television and on the radio? Maybe start a megachurch and go into millions of dollars in debt to buy property and build an auditorium and hire staff? You might think that such a massive investment in time, money, and labor would guarantee that many would convert to Christ?

Alas, that is simply not God's way of doing things. Through the apostle Paul, God planted two Christian believers. Aquila and Priscilla, in the heart of Ephesus, that great ancient city of Asia Minor, and through the Christian testimony of these two blue collar workers and the apostle Paul (who also was a tentmaker), the Lord Jesus Christ began to build His church to such an extent that the Holy Spirit could report in Acts 19:10, “...all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks”. That's God's way of doing things.

By using you and I and everyone who professes Christ as their Saviour to preach, that is, to simply tell others how Jesus delivered us from our sins and, that what he did for us, he desires to do for everyone that all may have eternal life. If every saved, born-again believer in Jesus Christ would simply obey Christ and tell their personal testimony to everyone around them, we would be able to do what elections and legislation cannot do...turn our nation back to God. This is the power that God has given to every Christian.

But in order to wield this power, we must set aside the distractions of our culture and open our mouths and tell others that the Son of God paid for their sins on the cross, was buried, and that He rose again three days later according to the scriptures. That's our Christian duty and our obligation before God. As Jesus commanded, ...ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto THE UTTERMOST PART OF THE EARTH (Acts 1:8).
