Liverpool No Longer UNESCO World Heritage Site; China's Quanzhou Added | CNA Correspondent
This year, UNESCO named Quanzhou in China’s Fujian province a World Heritage Site. Shockingly it also stripped Liverpool of that honour. CNA Correspondent looks at the tale of these two cities, once the world’s busiest and most cosmopolitan ports.
Why did UNESCO add Quanzhou and in the same year, remove Liverpool from the prestigious list? What really is “world heritage”? What does it mean for us and in a time of crisis during the current COVID-19 pandemic, is “heritage” a luxury we can do without till better times or an anchor amidst the uncertainty?
