Tall Ships - Sail Training Association - Chance of a lifetime

I produced this film in the early 1980's. It was made for the STA to promote their young persons experience on the STA Schooners Sir Winston Churchill and Malcolm Miller.
The film is a mixture of existing STA library shots and additional filming on the Solent and Southampton. I filmed this just after a severe gale in the Solent which damaged one of the schooners. We had three film crews on the schooner - one located in the crows nest, two on deck and an additional third crew filming in Peter Twiss's boat for ship to ship shots. The filming also took us to Buckingham Palace to interview HRH The Duke of Edinburgh who introduces the film.

Narrated and interviews by Martin Muncaster.

To quote -
"This is one of the better videos made among many produced for the STA.
People were natural and not camera conscious; they were not tending to show off and over act to the camera as in some of the later videos and the material was not condensed into one voyage as most of the videos were, giving a well balanced account of a typical voyage".

Uploaded from an original 16mm film that I have.
