Why China’s Thorium Fueled Nuclear Reactor Could Revolutionise Atomic Energy Industry
China will soon be testing a thorium-based nuclear reactor in the middle of a desert in northern China. Beijing has announced that it has completed the construction of its first thorium-fueled molten salt nuclear reactor. The last molten salt reactor in the world ran till 1969 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US state of Tennessee. All nuclear reactors at present use uranium as fuel.
