Justice department can keep 2020 ballots FBI seized from Fulton county, judge rules

A federal judge ruled that the U.S. government can retain 2020 election ballots and related materials seized by the FBI from a Fulton County, Georgia, warehouse.

The case stemmed from a January raid linked to an investigation into alleged irregularities in the 2020 presidential election, which Fulton County officials argued was unlawful and unconstitutional.

Donald Trump and allies had previously made unproven claims of widespread fraud in the county, which includes Atlanta and is heavily Democratic.

Judge J.P. Boulee acknowledged the seizure “was not perfect” but said the county failed to prove its rights were violated or that it would be harmed by not getting the materials back, The Guardian has reported.

The Justice Department says the investigation involves possible violations related to election record retention and fraudulent ballots, while Georgia’s 2020 results were repeatedly recounted and confirmed a win for Joe Biden.
