CDC DIRECTOR PRESSED ON FEDERAL RESPONSE TO COVID-19: Dr. Robert Redfield of the CDC, Admiral Brett Giroir of HHS, and other federal officials are testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the United States’ response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With over 6.6 million infections across the country, the U.S. is on track to surpass the grim milestone of 200,000 deaths later this week. Given Bob Woodward's bombshell reporting that shows Trump intentionally played down the threat of the virus, Dr. Redfield is expected to be pressed on any conversation he has had with Pres. Trump regarding the severity of COVID-19. Last night at a town hall event on ABC News, Trump said that the virus will just 'go away' even without a vaccine. When pressed about the number of deaths that would occur if that happened, Trump shrugged it off and pointed to the concept of ‘herd immunity.’
