Forms of Rule Part 4: Political Form Ancient the Polis vs Modern the State

Here is the fourth part of my series on the Forms of Rule. In this video, I look at the political form. Here I present the Ancient, classical political form of the political rules frames and gives shape to the polis. I then explain why that political form became no longer viable and the problem that happens where there were large varieties of forms that sought to lay claim to be authoritative throughout the middle ages until the creation of the state, which then becomes the modern form of political rule. Here I explain why to treat the polis as the state is a mistake and why the rise of the state in the modern era (around the 16th Century) was not a form of continuation of the older tradition of the political form but a radical break and a wholly new model by which politics rule.
