Phantom Flight Chaos: Iran War Sends Planes to 11,000 Km Journeys to Nowhere | Firstpost America

A wave of so-called phantom flights has exposed the scale of disruption caused by the Iran conflict. Emirates flight EK10 from London turned back to Gatwick after flying over Saudi Arabia, completing a 9,100-km round trip after Dubai airport briefly shut following a drone strike. Around 30 Emirates flights heading to Dubai were also forced to return or divert. Some flights were rerouted to Cairo, Karachi, Dhaka and even Italy. Since February 28, Emirates has cancelled more than 2,000 flights, while Qatar Airways and Etihad have also seen massive disruption. Across West Asia, nearly 30,000 flights had been cancelled by March 17.
